Project Under the Sea
Project Under the Sea is a summer capsule wardrobe collection from Project Run and Play, with beautiful patterns for boys and girls. The collection includes 17 patterns of clothes, swimwear, accessories and plush toys.
I contributed 2 patterns for the collection, the Reef top and the Seaside shorts, and sewed a bikini, a dress and a hoodie for my daughter.
The Pike bikini by Sofiona Designs is the perfect pattern for my daughter. She loves the retro look of the high waist and low cut leg bottoms, paired with the cropped top with the small ruffle. I lined both pieces with swimsuit lining knit, sewed everything with enclosed sides seams and topstitched the elastic edges with zigzag stitch.
Then I made a Lagoon dress. This pattern includes several sleeves and skirt options, from a top to a mermaid dress. I made the short puffy sleeves and fishtail high-low skirt which is a full circle.
The neckline is finished with a hidden wrapped binding and fits perfectly. There's a waistband connecting the top to the skirt, and I added an elastic inside it to help support the pull of the circle skirt. And because knits don't fray, I didn't have to hem the skirt.
The fabric is a gorgeous cotton knit jersey from ilovekutchi.
Now for the Morgana zip-up by Call Ajaire. I don't know about your kids, but mine love zip-up hoodies, so of course I had to sew this one. I made view F of the pattern, which is a cropped view with long sleeves, that will look great with dresses, shorts and pants.
This pattern is designed for minimal stretch fabrics and I used a bright yellow french terry from ilovekutchi.
When I was sewing the hood I thought that a contrast pop of color would look cute, so I covered the hood seams and the inside neckline seam with the same jersey knit from the dress, and we love how it turned out.
